Terms of Engagement

These terms outline how I work with individuals and couples in psychotherapy.

A full written agreement is provided and signed at the start of therapy.

  • All sessions are a full hour.

Sessions are usually weekly at an agreed regular time and location (in person or online).

My practice operates in accordance with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) Code of Ethics and Professional Practice and is subject to the laws of England and Wales.

If you are based outside England and Wales, please ensure that working online with a UK-based practitioner is lawful in your location.

  • Fees are agreed before therapy begins.

Sessions are invoiced monthly and payable in advance.

Fees are reviewed annually in January.

If payment is not received within a reasonable timeframe, sessions may be paused until fees are settled. If financial difficulties arise, I encourage open discussion.

  • At least 72 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule a session. Sessions cancelled with less notice will be charged in full.

If sufficient notice is given and payment has already been made, the fee will be carried forward.

If you wish to change an in-person session to an online session, at least 24 hours’ notice is required.

If you arrive late, the session will still end at the scheduled time.

If you are more than 15 minutes late without prior notice, the session may be considered cancelled.

For couples work, sessions will not proceed if one partner is absent, unless this has been agreed in advance.

  • Sessions may not be recorded without written consent.

Please attend sessions free from the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs.

Online sessions require you to ensure a private and appropriate environment.

I do not provide formal psychiatric diagnoses or legal reports.

  • If you wish to end therapy, I ask for at least four weeks’ notice where possible, allowing time for a thoughtful ending process. This will usually include at least two ending sessions.

If we have worked together for a shorter period, we will agree an appropriate ending structure.

If I need to end our work for professional reasons, I will provide reasonable notice wherever possible.

  • Therapy is confidential and conducted in accordance with professional ethical standards.

Information will not be shared without consent except in limited circumstances, including:

    • Serious risk of harm to you or others

    • Safeguarding concerns

    • Legal obligation or court order

I attend regular clinical supervision as required by professional standards. Client work may be discussed in supervision in anonymised form.

Further details about how personal information is handled can be found in the Privacy Notice.

  • If you have concerns about my work, I encourage you to raise them with me directly.

If a matter cannot be resolved, you may contact the UKCP, which oversees professional standards and complaints procedures.
